Narcissistic Top 40
Excuse me for a minute while I rant about the new CD I picked up last week: Now 21!You know the format. 20 recent top hits. Some pop, some rap, some rock, maybe one country. Version 21 is a little better than the last few and has a few playable tracks on it. Overall, I like it and it gets me down the road.
Until I get to track 12, that is. Kelly Clarkson's "Because of you". It's her last teen angst song about some grievance or other that she's got with her mother, as far as I can tell.
Normally I detest angst crap in any format from entertainers. Like they've got crap to complain about. Give me a break.
Clarkson's angst wailing strikes me as more detestable than most. It gets my hackles up right from the first line:
"I will not make the same mistakes you did"
No, peaches. You'll make your own fresh set of mistakes and screw your own kid up. And if she's half the ungrateful bitch that you are, she'll hate you too - and probably write a crappy song about it.
So, how screwed up are you? What long term horrors do you have to live with because of the sins of your mother?
"Because of you
I never stray too far from the sidewalk"
Oh, the horrors! Is there more? What's the worst? Let's have it:
"Because of you
I learned to play on the safe side
so I won't get hurt"
Wow. Excuse the fuck out her for being a parent. You self-involved child.
It must be horrible be shackled with a future where you'll never make anything more or yourself than a mega-selling pop star. Because of her.
Rant off.
